Elewana Loisaba Tented Camp Aerial View

Loisaba Tented Camp recently completed a soft refurbishment designed to elevate guest comfort and maintain the property’s timeless style while maximising its sweeping views of the Laikipia Plateau.

The upgrade focused primarily on the public areas, with each space receiving new furniture, improved lighting, and refined design touches that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The refreshed areas include the reception, dining area, bar and lounge, restaurant, and main pool, all of which now showcase a warmer, more contemporary aesthetic that complements the camp’s natural tones and textures. Guest tents were also refreshed with reupholstered furnishings, new textiles, and locally inspired décor to ensure continuity between private and shared spaces.

Louis

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Louis Onyango Okech, our esteemed Group Reservations Manager, who passed away on 28th September 2025. Louis joined Elewana 27 years ago as the company’s very first recruit in Tanzania and went on to become one of its most respected leaders.

Louis was known for his consummate professionalism, kindness, and humility. To our trade partners, he was a trusted bridge - always responsive, dependable, and genuinely caring. His work touched every corner of our organisation, mentoring countless colleagues and ensuring every guest experience reflected Elewana’s values.

In honour of his legacy, Elewana has established the Louis Onyango Okech Memorial Scholarship Fund, dedicated to supporting young hospitality professionals who embody his spirit of excellence and compassion.

Lewa Safari Camp camel trekking

We want to advise our guests that horse and camel riding activities will be temporarily suspended from 4th November to 1st December 2025 at both Lewa Safari Camp and Kifaru House in Lewa Conservancy. All other experiences within the Conservancy, including guided game drives, bush walks, visits with the anti-poaching dog sniffer unit and tours of Lewa headquarters, will continue as usual during this period. Horse and camel riding operations will resume on 2nd December 2025.

Tortilis Camp views over Mt Kilimanjaro

We’re pleased to confirm that Tortilis Camp Amboseli will remain open for the entire 2026 calendar year. This update replaces earlier information indicating a temporary closure. The camp will continue welcoming guests through all seasons, offering uninterrupted access to Amboseli’s iconic elephant herds and Mount Kilimanjaro views.

We encourage our partners to highlight the excellent value and beauty of Green and Mid-Season travel across the Elewana portfolio. These months offer lush landscapes, abundant wildlife, and fewer crowds, along with the most favourable rates of the year. Combined with current promotions - including circuit discounts, stay 4/pay 3, and solo traveller offers - this period represents an outstanding opportunity for guests to experience East Africa’s magic at its most serene.

The Elewana Collection is proud to be recognised as First Runner Up in the Nature, Heritage, and Tourism category at the Kenya Green Building Society 2025 Conference & Expo.

This award recognition underscores Elewana’s deep-rooted commitment to sustainability, from the eco-conscious design of our camps and lodges to the responsible operations that protect and celebrate Kenya’s natural and cultural heritage.

We applaud the Kenya Green Building Society for their leadership in advancing sustainable and climate-resilient development, and we are proud to stand alongside them in driving a greener, more sustainable future for tourism in Kenya and beyond. The land & Life team was proud to accept the award on behalf of Elewana earlier this month.

Land & Life Foundation was honoured to co-host a recent webinar on “Navigating Sustainability Across a Group Setting” exploring how hospitality brands can embed responsible practices consistently across multiple properties. The discussion highlighted that while aligning sustainability efforts across diverse locations presents challenges, such as maintaining standards and measuring impact, it also creates powerful opportunities.

A unified approach strengthens brand identity, encourages shared learning and innovation, and fosters employee pride and retention. It also delivers economies of scale, stronger impact, and improved risk management. With 100% of Land & Life Foundation’s overheads covered by bed-night revenue from the group, this partnership model ensures that every guest stay actively supports conservation, community, and education initiatives—turning sustainability into a shared purpose and a strategic advantage.

As a Group, our collective impact is far greater than the sum of our parts, and it is this shared commitment that allows us to protect our environment, empower our communities, and create a legacy of responsible tourism.

UltraMARAthon

Elewana is delighted to be supporting this year’s UltraMARAthon by assisting at the 6.25km water station with setup, hydration distribution and cleanup for around 100 runners. Elewana vehicles will also be on hand to help transport approximately 50 relay runners between relay points and race headquarters.

The UltraMARAthon was launched in 2020 as a 50KM race through the Mara to raise funds for the rangers, following the loss of vital tourism to the area due to Covid-19. The race has grown since then and this will be the 6th event. The money raised through sponsorship and race fees is divided after race costs to the four conservancies in which the event is held (MNC, Ol Choro, Enonkishu, and Lemek) to support ranger welfare, as well as to the Mara Elephant Project and the AMS health centre.

A stay at Elsa’s is a safari experience to remember. The iconic property is steeped in rich safari history and located on the site where George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the lioness and Joy subsequently penned the novel Born Free. The film based upon the novel, starring Virginia McKenna has been credited with being one of the most influential conservation films of its time.

Earlier this year, Elsa’s Kopje completed a major refurbishment with upgrades to the rooms, communal areas and the pool. The spa has also been enhanced with an expanded space and there is a new sundowner spot, allowing guests panoramic views of the expansive surrounding plains whilst they enjoy their drink of choice. There is a delicious new culinary offering that plays to Kenya's diverse food traditions serving up a feast of local produce specially curated by our skilled Kenyan chef.

Post refurbishment, Elsa’s Kopje still pays tribute to a pivotal time in safari history with an offering of elegant rooms, all uniquely decorated but unanimous in breathtaking vistas across the wild and rugged Meru National Park. With six safari cottages, three honeymoon suites, one family cottage and a private house, the property can cater to families and couples alike. Guests can explore the surrounding park via bush drives, bush walks or a night game drive. To relax there is a stunning infinity pool, a welcome cool spot from which to watch roaming animals below and a serene massage space offering a selection of treatments infusing local techniques and products.

Due to Elsa’s being the only permanent property in Meru National Park, guests will enjoy the 215,000-acre National Park and rhino sanctuary pretty much to themselves. The area is well known for large elephant herds, lion and birdlife and more diversity of species than any other park in East Africa.

Loisaba Tented Camp had recently undergone a refurbishment, what changes are you most excited about

The refurbishment at Loisaba Tented Camp has breathed new life into a very special place. It wasn’t a major overhaul, more a thoughtful refresh (new paints, furniture, and lighting) but the impact has been remarkable. Walking through the camp now, there’s a renewed sense of warmth and calm - it’s almost magical. The colours feel lighter, the spaces flow better, and everything has this quiet confidence about it

What I love most is that it still feels undeniably Loisaba - wild, open, and connected to the landscape - except it now carries a renewed modern edge, like it’s caught its second wind.

Guests feel it too; from the moment they enter reception, they will say things like “Wow, it’s beautiful.” For me, the best part is knowing it gets better, nothing can prepare you for the moment you enter the main dining area - the thoughtful soft touches, textures and colours blend into a sweeping view that can only be appreciated when seen. It’s a reminder that even small changes, done thoughtfully, can completely rejuvenate a place without losing the soul that makes it special.

A further ten white rhinos were translocated to Loisaba last month, have many guests enjoyed rhino sightings and what feedback have you received

It’s been such a privilege to witness the arrival of the ten Southern White Rhinos at Loisaba (now 11 - as a baby was born).

Their translocation marks a huge milestone for Loisaba Conservancy and for all of us who are proud to be a part of this incredible place. The sense of pride and hope that comes with seeing rhinos back on this landscape is hard to put into words - it’s conservation in action, right before our eyes.

Guests have been absolutely thrilled. Many have enjoyed sightings of both species simultaneously (black and White) while out on game drives, but one of the most special things is that you don’t even have to leave camp to see them.

Early yesterday morning, I stood on the main deck with guests, coffee in hand, watching three of the Southern Whites grazing peacefully below us - calm, unbothered, completely at home. Moments like that remind me how far we’ve come.

The feedback has been incredible - guests describe the experience as humbling and deeply moving. For many, it’s the first time they’ve seen rhino in the wild, and to know that it’s happening here, in partnership with Loisaba Conservancy, makes it all the more meaningful.

There are plenty of activities available at Loisaba, what would be your top recommends

That’s always a tough one, because the beauty of Loisaba is that there’s genuinely something for everyone. Of course, the safaris are front and centre - those early mornings out in the valley, the light, the wildlife - it’s what people come for, and it never disappoints. But beyond that, the range of activities here is what really makes Loisaba special.

For guests interested in conservation, the anti-poaching and cultural visits are always eye-opening - they really connect people to the story of the land and the work being done behind the scenes. For the more adventurous, there’s mountain biking, e-biking, and night game drives that bring a bit of adrenaline into the mix.

Then you’ve got the four-legged options - horse safaris and camel rides - which are incredible because you get so close to the wildlife in complete silence. Add in a guided walk or a bit of fishing, and it rounds off the experience beautifully.

And if you really want to do something unforgettable, the Heli Safari with Africa Heli Adventures is on another level. Flying low through the valleys and over the craters is something that’s hard to describe - it’s the kind of experience that changes how you see this part of the world.

What is it you enjoy most about the Loisaba Conservancy and what has been your favourite animal sighting

What I love most about Loisaba Conservancy is how alive it feels - there’s this incredible sense of space and freedom, and yet everywhere you look, something is happening. It’s one of the few places where conservation, wildlife, and community all thrive side by side, and you feel that energy the moment you arrive.

As for sightings, Loisaba has spoiled me - but the leopards here are something else. We’re incredibly lucky with how abundant they are, and watching a mother with her cubs never gets old. My all-time favourite moment, though, was seeing an interaction between a cheetah and a leopard. The cheetah was teasing the leopard - darting in, taunting it, then sprinting off and coming back again - like a mischievous child testing its limits. It went on for several minutes, and we were all just sitting there, completely mesmerized. Moments like that remind you how wild and unpredictable nature really is.

Are there any other new activities or upgrades in the pipeline for Loisaba Tented Camp

Looking ahead, 2026 is going to be an exciting year for us at Loisaba Tented Camp. We’ll be moving to an all-inclusive activities model, which means every guest will be able to experience the full range of what Loisaba has to offer - from guided walks and camel rides to biking and cultural visits - without thinking twice about what’s included. It’s a great step toward giving guests a more seamless, immersive experience.

In terms of upgrades, there’s nothing major on the horizon - more a case of refining and perfecting what’s already here and adding some convenient comforts to the rooms. Loisaba is already such an incredible product, and our focus now is on the small details that elevate the experience even further. Whether it’s improving comfort, enhancing service flow, or finding new ways to surprise our guests, it’s all about building on what makes this place so special.
