For the second year, Born Free supported by the Elewana Collection held the Walk on the Wild Side 20,000 step challenge in Meru. On August 9th the Meru community marked World Lion Day (August 10) and World Elephant Day (August 12) with hundreds of local community members and school children from Meru walking 20,000 steps, covering approximately 8km. Significantly, each step represented the number of remaining lions and elephants in the wild.
During the day Born Free Kenya, Elewana, Kenya Wildlife Service, and other partner organisations delivered talks on wildlife conservation, emphasizing the collective responsibility in supporting Meru's conservation efforts.
Should you wish to support the event you can still donate to contribute to the protection of magnificent creatures like lions and elephants. Your contribution will support wildlife conflict mitigation techniques, including eye-cow, de-snaring, beehive fences, water catchment projects, predator deterrent lights, camera traps, predator-proof bomas, community outreaches, and conservation clubs.
