All the cars are newly painted and new seats have been installed for a more comfortable ride. Every single vehicle now has a fridge installed providing guaranteed cool refreshments. Photographers have also welcomed the fact that all car windscreens can fold down allowing for uninterrupted views. All cars have had new roof covers and side roll up and down covers to protect against weather and allow for an overall enhanced experience.

We would like to remind readers that that due to popular demand, this year the camp will not be closing in April and May. This is a wonderful time to travel to the Masai Mara with fewer crowds, plenty of bird life and some fantastic game viewing opportunities. Many animals are calving so it is a great time to witness the young take their first steps.

As the sustainability arm of the Elewana Collection, the Land & Life foundation recently conducted biannual Environmental Management System (EMS) assessments across the collection's camps and lodges, affirming the group’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

These assessments, conducted with an internally developed EMS tool, comprehensively evaluate various facets of environmental management, including energy, water, waste, facilities, products/chemicals, air quality, fire safety, health and safety, and legal compliance, as well as engagement with local communities, employment practices, and involvement in conservation initiatives. The outcome of these assessments yield invaluable quantitative scores, offering a tangible measure of each property's environmental performance, pinpointing opportunities for enhancement and serving as essential benchmarks in Elewana's sustainability journey.

Guided by these assessments, Elewana is able to refine its practices, ensuring alignment with principles of environmental responsibility and setting a standard for environmental stewardship in the hospitality industry.

Lewa Elephant

Last month, Meru County Governor H.E. Kawira Mwangaza, in collaboration with Lewa officials and Lewa Conservancy presented a 2.5-kilometre elephant fence to the Mutunyi community in Meru County. The donation of the fence is part of Lewa’s ongoing commitment to wildlife conservation and community empowerment and was generously funded by the proceeds from the Lewa Safari Marathon. The elephant fence not only safeguards wildlife habitats but also ensures the safety and security of the Mutunyi community, fostering harmony between humans and wildlife.

In a parallel effort to mitigate human-wildlife conflict and promote coexistence, Lewa successfully completed the construction and handover of an 800-metre-long predator-proof fence to the Leparua community, situated north of Lewa. This initiative serves as a proactive measure to protect both livestock and wildlife, thereby enhancing the livelihoods and resilience of the local community.
