Elewana Collection goes to War with the Straw
Elewana Collection is joining so many organisations around the world to eliminate its plastic waste, the latest being the straw. We are the first in East Africa to announce that we no longer use plastic straws in our properties and have replaced these with biodegradable ones that decompose in 90-120 days.
The choice is yours;
A BIODEGRADABLE STRAW OR NO STRAW.
STRAWS DON’T BIODEGRADE, THEY PHOTODEGRADE
Over time, the sun’s UV rays break plastic down into smaller, more harmful pieces that last 100’s of years. Even then it is still plastic.
STRAWS ARE NOT RECYCLED
We dispose of so much plastic that we are only able to recycle the most common types.
#1 to #3 are recycled, the rest become trash.
Straws are #5.
PLASTIC THREATENS WILDLIFE
Entanglement, ingestion and habitat disruption all result from plastic ending up in the spaces where animals live. In our oceans alone, plastic debris outweighs zooplankton by a ratio of 36 to 1.
