Flamingo Walking

The name "Amboseli" comes from a Maasai word meaning "salty dust" and the National Park is renowned for its majestic views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the large herds of elephant that roam its dusty and stunningly arid landscape.

Amboseli National Park covers 392kmĀ² and has a mixed topography of plains, acacia woodland, rocky thorn bush, swamps and marshes. This diversity, along with a long dry season, ensures excellent viewing of animals living in this natural habitat. It also has a dry Pleistocene lake basin that houses a temporary lake, Lake Amboseli, after the rains.

However, there is another animal that has flocked to the area, which is not often seen. After a heavy rainy season the lake is brimming with life, as hundreds of flamingos have arrived and have made this their new home, adding to the dramatic scenery known as Amboseli.
